A serious motorcycle accident in Mackinac County has injured a top-ranking Republican in the Indiana Statehouse.
House Ways and Means Chairman Tim Brown was thrown off his motorcycle when an SUV pulled out in front of him yesterday on U-S 2 near Saint Ignace. A fellow Republican lawmaker who was with Brown was not injured. The 62-year-old Brown was taken to a hospital in Petoskey, where he’s listed in critical condition.

Michigan State Police troopers from both the St. Ignace and Sault Ste. Marie posts responded to a motorcycle crash on US-2 near Boulevard Drive in Mackinac County. Upon investigation, police determined the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on US-2 when it was struck by a SUV.
The driver of the motorcycle, 62-year-old Timothy Brown of Crawfordsville, Indiana, was transported to the Mackinac Straits Health System in St. Ignace for treatment of multiple injuries. He was later transported to a downstate medical facility for further treatment and is in critical condition. The driver of the SUV, a 67-year-old man from Rogers City, was not injured in the crash.
Initial investigation shows that the driver of the SUV pulled onto US-2 into the path of the motorcycle. Traffic was rerouted around the scene for several hours while accident investigators processed the scene. Weather and alcohol were not believed to be factors in the crash, but the crash remains under investigation.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department, St. Ignace Police Department, St. Ignace Fire Department, Straits Area EMS and Michigan Department of Transportation.
