Voters in Delta County overwhelmingly approved a millage renewal and increase Tuesday to run the Community Action Agency’s senior programs. The vote was 3,856 “yes” to 1,926 “no”.
The proposal replaced the point-6 mill tax with a higher point-8 mill tax.
The money raised…about 930-thousand dollars a year…will help to run four senior centers in Delta County. That’s where seniors can get reduced-price meals and take part in social activities. There’s also home-delivered meals.
The money also goes to support Adult Day Services for people with dementia like Alzheimer’s. There’s also respite services for caregivers offered there.
Meanwhile, the Delta Area Transit Authority had millage requests before voters in four townships Tuesday.
Bark River Township Voters said “yes” to a DATA millage request for bus service in the township, 137-yes-to-104 no.
Bay deNoc Township voters also said “yes” to bus service in the township, 58-to-33.
Voters in Cornell Township said “no”, however, 75-to-59.
In Escanaba Township, voters were asked to approve a renewal of the current millage. That proposal passed, 3o3 yes to 141 no.
