The Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District (DSISD) is honored to announce the opening of the Daniel J. Kobasic Memorial Welding Center, with a dedication ceremony taking place on Friday, March 28, 2025 at 10:00a.m.
The community is welcome to stop in and view the new 3600 square foot state-of-the-art facility, that doubles the welding booths from 11 in the previous space to 22 and includes classroom and locker space. The Daniel J. Kobasic Memorial Welding Center anchors a manufacturing learning hub, enabling Career and Technical Education students in Machining, Product Design and Development and Welding classes to work together in all manufacturing stages from conception to completion.
The DSISD Escanaba campus serves about 350 CTE students a day and also houses administrative and service offices for early childhood, special education and general education, professional learning space and a preschool. Along with the Daniel J. Kobasic Welding Center, the $3.1 million addition adds office space and creates opportunities to improve classrooms and conference rooms throughout the facility.
Supported by $1.4 million of Congressionally Directed Spending, supported by Senator Gary Peters and Representative Jack Bergman, a $500,000 donation by the The Daniel J Kobasic Foundation and a nearly $330,000 grant for the SME PRIME (Partnership Response In Manufacturing Education) program, developed by the SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers) Education Foundation, the expansion builds capacity to more efficiently provide students from across Delta and Schoolcraft counties with a wide range of experiences that will develop their skills and abilities to pursue the career, college and/or individual goals and opportunities of their choosing.
The DSISD is incredibly grateful for the community support, at all levels, to enhance and revitalize the 40 year old building. The collaborative effort forged a more conducive space for continuing partnerships with our local districts to make a difference in the lives of all students.
