CLICK TO HEAR DON CURRAN’S INTERVIEW WITH CONGRESSMAN JACK BERGMAN
Upper Peninsula Congressman Jack Bergman had a good spot in the capitol rotunda Monday for President Trump’s second inaugural.
In an exclusive interview with RRN’s Don Curran, Bergman said he was in the middle of the action for the event, which was moved indoors because of cold weather in the nation’s capital.
“If you had been standing where the president was standing giving his speech, and you looked out at the crowd and you looked at your 1:00, and looked about 50 feet away, you would have been looking at me,” Bergman (R-Watersmeet) said. “The dignity of the ceremony from beginning to end was a tribute to the United States and how we value our form of government.”
Bergman says Trump’s first term was chaotic at times, but he thinks this one will be different.
“When he came to Washington eight years ago, he really had no experience on how Washington worked,” Bergman said. “Fast-forward eight years later, his team came in with a game plan to get the ball rolling right away.”
Bergman, starting his fifth term in Congress since first being elected in 2016, said that Trump will be busy.
“Creating a safe and secure environment by closing the (Mexico) border, beginning to remove people from our country who are here illegally, and doing the right thing for American citizens on so many counts,” Bergman said. “So, he’s got a lot of irons on the fire.”
As does Bergman, who is part of a very thin Republican majority in the U.S. House that the president will be counting on to pass his agenda
“I am cautiously optimistic that there are moderate Democrats…let’s face it, both parties have them..both parties have way left and way right extremes that don’t really add much value,” Bergman said.
And Job One, besides the border issues?
“Bring back the energy sector to a point where we can actually be the energy of the world, because four years ago, Joe Biden shut the energy sector down.”
