At approximately 1:08 P.M. the Negaunee City Fire Department was paged out for a report of smoke and fire coming from a residence at the 100 Block of Rock St.
Upon arriving on scene, crews confirmed there were flames and smoke coming from the attic of the home, which was starting to spread to the second story. Weather conditions made fighting the fire more difficult, as much of the water was freezing, and eventually collected on nearby power lines, causing one power line to fall.
Crews were able to contain the fire and extinguish it. No injuries to responders or civilians were reported.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation. The family will be supported by the Marquette County Pigs n Heat fund.
The 100 blocks of Rock St and W Clark St are temporarily closed due to ice that was formed on the streets.
The Negaunee City Fire Department would like to thank Ishpeming City Fire, Negaunee Township Fire/EMS Department, Marquette County Rescue 131, U.P. Health Systems West, Negaunee Police Department and Marquette County Central Dispatch for their assistance in this matter. The Negaunee City Fire Department would also like to thank the Negaunee DPW, Negaunee Electric, and Red Cross for providing coffee to responders to keep warm.
