The Bay College Diversity Committee is proud to present a special screening of the thought-provoking documentary, The Ride Ahead, on September 17th, 2024, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm ET (2:00pm to 4:00pm CT). The screening will take place at two locations: the Besse Theater on the Escanaba Campus and Room 236 on the Iron Mountain Campus. A virtual option is also available. This event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.
The Ride Ahead follows the journey of Samuel Habib, a typical 21-year-old facing the universal challenges of adulthood—moving out, starting a career, and finding love. But for Samuel, living with a disability adds an extra layer of complexity. The film explores how a community of disability activists and advocates might offer him the support he needs to navigate the adult world and pursue his dreams.
This documentary sheds light on the often-overlooked experiences of adults with disabilities, offering a powerful, relatable, and heartwarming story about independence, community, and self-determination.
Bay College’s Diversity Committee encourages students, faculty, staff, and community members to join this important conversation. The event will provide an opportunity for attendees to engage with these themes, reflect on the challenges faced by people with disabilities, and explore how we can all contribute to building a more inclusive society.
