With the community approval of the 2022 Bond Millage and 2023 Sinking Fund, the Ishpeming Pubic School District is upgraded its membrane roofing, gutters, fascia, cupolas and replacing its original copper roof at the Middle/High School.
This month represents a milestone on this project as the historic sailing ship weathervane that has been refurbished and outfitted with new custom made ball bearings by local artisan Tom McManus, was installed in its original position atop the tallest cupola 120 feet above the main campus lawn.
Metal Craftsmen of Dan Perkins Construction has been working with General Contractor, Cross Contracting all summer to complete this historic renovation and the project is scheduled to be completed before the fall semester begins.
“This is the crowning project of our career at Dan Perkins,” states president, Dan Perkins. “It is truly an honor to have the privilege of restoring the copper roof at this beautiful school my family has attended and loves.”
Ishpeming Public School District Superintendent, Carrie Meyers, Principal Seth Hoopingarner, MARESA CFO Anthony Bertucci, and Reid Anderson of UP Engineers and Architects have been working closely with the team on design and specifications to give the school an authentic restoration that captures the quality and beauty of the original architecture. The final placement of the weathervane will be done on Monday at 10:30.
