Voters went to the polls in Delta County on Tuesday as part of the Michigan Primary Elections. The Delta County Clerkâs office says that of the 33,000 registered voters, about 7,200 cast votes, amounting to a 22.6-percent turnout.
There were some contested county-wide races in both Democratic and Republican primaries. The Delta County Board of Commissioners, which saw three members recalled earlier this year, was where most of the action was on Tuesday, with two of them trying to get their old jobs back.
In District Three, recalled commissioner Bob Barron lost his Republican primary to Christine Williams, 684-420 (62%-38%). In District Five, recalled commissioner Robert Peterson also lost his GOP Primary to the man who replaced him, Matt Jensen, 485-256 (65%-35%).
In District Four, recalled commissioner David Moyle ran unopposed, and will advance to the November general election. He will face the woman who replaced him, Kelli Van ginHoven, who won her Democratic primary over Jason Sacco, 512-63 (89%-11%).
There was also a contested race in District Two between Democrats Bob Aschbacher and Mark Asselin. Aschbaucher won, 1,887-1,634 (53%-46%). He will face current board member Patrick Johnson, who held off a Republican primary challenge from former board member Steve Viau, 396-316 (55%-45%).
In the District One GOP primary, current board member John Malnar defeated challenger Sandra Skiba, 552-433 (56%-44%).
There was also a contested race for the Delta County Clerk on the Republican side, as recent Northern Michigan University graduate Elizabeth Moberg challenged long-time clerk Nancy Przewrocki. Przewrocki won the primary, 3,124-989 (75%-24%).
