Firewood permits for the Hiawatha National Forest are now available for purchase through a new pilot online E-Permit system. Permits may now be purchased by computer or mobile device any time.
“The Hiawatha is excited to be part of this pilot program along with four other National Forests across the country,” said Forest Supervisor, Shannon Rische. “We’re hoping that the lessons learned here in the Upper Peninsula will help people from all over to connect with their Forest resources in an easy and efficient way.”
With this pilot program, the Forest Service is exploring opportunities to modernize and make services accessible online. It will provide an opportunity to test the E-Permit system on a small scale and then expand to additional forests and special forest product permit types over time. The five National Forests that will be piloting the new E-Permit system and selling firewood permits online are: Grand Mesa Uncompahgre and Gunnison, Shoshone, George Washington & Jefferson, Chattahoochee-Oconee, and the Hiawatha.
This new service provides flexibility and convenience to our forest users. To purchase a firewood permit or to learn more about permits and gathering firewood, visit https://epermits.fs2c.usda.gov/.
Traditional firewood permits will still be available to purchase at local Forest Service offices.
The Forest Service will continue to refine and improve the quality of the online permit system and add additional special forest product permits in the future.
