The Michigan State Police, Marine Services Unit located the capsized boat and both missing people involved with it Monday afternoon.
The victims were deceased and located in an area nearly 220 feet in depth in Lake Superior.
The families have been notified however no names will be released.
ORIGINAL STORY:
On 6/8/2024 (Saturday) at approximately 12:15pm, troopers from the Calumet Post along with deputies from the Houghton and Baraga County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to an area off of Second Sand Beach for a capsized 21-ft boat.
It was reported that 5 people were on the boat at the time it sank. A person in another boat near the area responded to the scene and was able to rescue 3 of the 5 people. As of 8:30pm, the boat had not been located and 2 people remain missing.
The Coast Guard responded with a helicopter from Traverse City, MI and a boat from Coast Guard Station Portage. The Michigan State Police, Marine Services Unit is also responding to the scene to assist.
