At approximately 9:22 p.m., on Monday, April 15, 2024, the City of Ishpeming Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Kawasaki motorcycle near the intersection of Jasper Street and Summit Street, within City limits.
The officer activated his emergency lights and siren as the motorcycle failed to stop and accelerated, fleeing.
A pursuit was initiated, which led officers through Negaunee to County Road 480, then to M553. The pursuit ended on M94 near Engman Lake Road, in Skandia, when the operator of the motorcycle, a 23-year-old male subject from Champion, pulled over and stopped.
The subject was then taken into custody and transported to the Marquette County Jail where he was lodged on the following charges:
- Four counts of fourth degree fleeing a Police Officer (each count is a felony carrying a possible two-year sentence)
- Reckless driving (93-day misdemeanor)
- Operating a vehicle with a revoked driver’s license (93-day misdemeanor)
- Operating a vehicle without security (insurance) (one-year misdemeanor)
The City of Ishpeming Police Department was assisted by the Negaunee Police Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Chocolay Township Police Department and Forsyth Township Police Department.
No further information regarding this incident will be released. The name of the suspect will not be released prior to his arraignment.
