Escanaba Public Safety is out with a report on that fire which destroyed several businesses and killed one person in the downtown area back in January.
Investigators believe the cause of the fire was ”human introduction of the ignition source to flammable material”. The report did not say whether that was intentional or accidental…but Pubic Safety says there is no evidence of a mechanical, electrical, heating, gas cause to the fire.
They say it started in the upstairs apartment above Trinkets & Treasures, and spread to other businesses, including Schwalbach Kitchens, which was also destroyed. They used surveillance videos and witness statements to help determine where the fire started. Besides Trinkets & Treasures and Schwalbach Kitchens, several adjoining businesses were heavily damaged in the blaze. One person was found dead in the rubble.
