The Escanaba Department of Public Safety was dispatched to 3239 18th Road in Wells Township at 8:52 Thursady night for a fully-engulfed barn fire.
Officers arrived on the scene and found a large metal barn fully-engulfed in flames, along with a nearby camper. The fire was starting to spread into the woods. Officers were able to stop the fire from spreading into the woods, and extenguish the fire.
Both the barn and the camper were a total loss. No injuries were reported, however, two piglets were lost in the fire.
All other animals (horses, chickens, and ducks) survived. Officers were on the scene for about two-and-a-half hours. The investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Escanaba Township Fire Department, Delta County Central Dispatch Center, and Rampart EMS.
