The Community Foundation of Marquette County, on behalf of the Huron Mountain Club (HMC) Fund, is pleased to announce the distribution of $45,800 in grants to nonprofits across Marquette County to support the needs of area residents.
The 2023 Huron Mountain Club Fund Recipients include: Bay Cliff Health Camp, Big Bay Elementary School, Peter White Public Library, Powell Township Ambulance Service, Powell Township Fire Department, Special Olympics, Trillium House, UP Land Conservancy, and Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve.
The Powell Township Ambulance Service and the Powell Township Fire Department are two of this year’s fund recipients. This local ambulance service provides critical assistance to Township residents and Huron Mountain Club members in need. With financial support, the ambulance service was able to purchase an upgraded Can Am UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle) to facilitate rescues in “our vast wilderness and hard to reach places”. The fire department and Huron Mountain Club have coordinated fire-fighting efforts for many years, and with the HMC Fund support have been able to purchase a “used brush/rescue truck for tackling wildfires.”
The UP Land Conservancy is a new grant recipient this year, and UPLC’s mission is very much in keeping with HMC’s tradition of working to “promote healthy natural ecosystems – including clean water, wildlife habitat, and recreation opportunities – for generations to come.”
The Huron Mountain Club Endowment Fund was established at the Community Foundation of Marquette County in 1999. Their generosity has impacted the lives of residents in so many ways – helping ensure children have opportunities to achieve greater independence at Bay Cliff Health Camp, supporting local schools, the library, hospice care and so much more.
According to Zosia Eppensteiner, CEO of the Community Foundation of Marquette County, “The charitable support through the Huron Mountain Club Fund continues to make such a positive impact across the community. This group cares deeply about the well-being of the community, and year after year, they demonstrate this in a powerful way. Since this fund was established, more than 1.1. million dollars in grant funding has been provided to nonprofits in Powell Township and Marquette County.”
