CLICK TO HEAR JACK HALL’S INTERVIEW WITH ELLIE O’DONNELL, HISTORICAL SOCIETY
The Delta County Historical Society opened the doors to the 156-year old Sand Point Lighthouse Tuesday afternoon in Escanaba’s Ludington Park.
It’s the annual Christmas Open House, allowing locals and tourists alike tour the lighthouse, boathouse, and museum, all for free. I
t’s become a holiday tradition in Escanaba, and it was an appropriate setting on Tuesday ,with thick dense fog hanging over the area, something that in the old days would have had the strong light from the lightouse radiate into Lake Michigan.
A busy stream of people came in for Christmas cookies and hot cider, says Ellie O’Donnell. She is a volunteer at the lighthouse and is a member of the Delta County Historical Society Board of Directors. O’Donnell calls the open house “our gift to the community”, and she says it gives people something to do on the two days after Christmas. If you missed Tuesday’s open house, don’t worry. They do it again on Wednesday from 1:00 until 4:00 and, again, free of charge.
