Holy Name Catholic School celebrated the eighth grade Class of 2023 on Tuesday, May 31 with a special Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church celebrated by Father Rick Courier. Following Mass, a graduation ceremony was held in the Holy Name Gymnasium.
HNCS Principal Joseph Carlson addressed the students, sharing his own memories over the years with them. “This class is full of bright minds and kind hearts,” he said, adding that they are talented group of students, having placed first this past year in the Diocesan Religion Bee.
Also at the ceremony, Class Representative Joshua Gartland gave the commencement address, sharing memories with his fellow classmates, and thanking family members and friends. “I am confident that we will be successful because of the strong foundation that Holy Name has provided us,” he said.
HNCS Alumni/Development Director then presented all of the graduates with handmade, blessed rosaries as graduation gifts. “Know we are praying for you, and please pray for us,” she told them. The class of 2023 chose the following as their class Bible verse: “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.”—Isaiah 26:3-4.
Father Timothy Ferguson, pastor of St. Joseph & St. Patrick’s Parish in Escanaba, gave the final blessing at the end of the graduation.
