Bay College honors Nursing Instructor, Christina Reed, Business Instructor, Heidi Rife, and Social Work Instructor, Michael Dupont as the recipients of the 2023 Outstanding Part Time Faculty Awards. To receive consideration for the award, faculty were nominated by a colleague, student, or someone from the community. The primary focus of this award is to acknowledge faculty’s commitment to education and excellence in service to others.
Christina Reed has been a RN for 14 years and currently works at OSF in the emergency room as well as teaching at Bay College. She is currently pursuing her Masters Degree in Nursing Education and will be graduating soon.
One of Christina’s students shared, “Christina always goes above and beyond to make sure all learning styles are met. We watch videos, look at books, and practice hands on. She is always more than happy to answer any questions or concerns. Christina is passionate about nursing, and has found a new passion for teaching the future generation of nurses as well. She uses her real-life scenarios which makes learning fun and realistic.”
Heidi Rife is a part-time Business Instructor as well as the Lake Superior State University Regional Center Director at the College’s Escanaba campus. She holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership with a Business Analytics concentration from Regent University. Heidi advises Bay College transfer students in local LSSU bachelor degree options and is a wonderful partner to Bay College. One of Heidi’s colleagues shared, “I have had the pleasure of working with Heidi as an adjunct instructor and she clearly has demonstrated mastery of the concepts covered in the courses and is able to add value beyond the standard text material to lead students to the mastery of course outcomes.”
Michael Dupont has been a part-time faculty member at Bay College since 1983. He holds a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Northern Michigan University and is a licensed Master Social Worker and Professional Counselor, as well as an Internationally Certified Addictions Counselor.
He has taught many different courses and served as a Counselor for Bay College students. One of Michael’s students shared, “Michael has a huge knowledge of the social work occupation and uses his humor to explain the material which is helpful. He is very passionate, empathetic, and a straight forward person who is not afraid of telling his students about the hardships of the social work profession.”
With the end of the winter semester, Michael has officially retired and the College thanks him for his years of service to Bay College and students.
