Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon is not conceding the election to Governor Gretchen Whitmer, even though Fox News projected that Whitmer had won the race.
“This race is not over yet, and Fox’s call was premature,” Dixon said shortly after midnight. “We expect counting to continue into tomorrow in our major counties. This race has a long way to go. We look forward to the FULL results tomorrow. When we have the results, you will hear from me again. We feel like victory is right around the corner. This race is going to be too close to call despite what Fox thinks. Major counties have a long, long way to go.”
Whitmer’s campaign released a statement at 1:30 a.m., claiming victory.
As of 3 a.m. Wednesday, Whitmer had just over two million votes, or 53.2 percent. Dixon trailed with 1.733 million votes, or 45.2 percent. This was with 78-percent of the votes counted.
