The Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children (Michigan AEYC) in partnership with The Michigan Department of Education / Office of Great Start would like to congratulate the following institutes of higher education on their selection for participation in the Caring for Michigan Future CDA Community Project.
Bay College
Grand Rapids Community College
Monroe County Community College
North Central Michigan College
Northwestern Michigan College
Washtenaw Community College
As a participant of this project, each of these Michigan colleges will receive technical assistance and support to develop and implement a credit-bearing cohort model which reduces barriers to traditional college enrollment and fulfills the training requirements for participants to pursue a CDA credential.
Each college will receive $12,000 in federal American Rescue Plan Act funding, awarded by the Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children through funding provided by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) as part of the Caring for MI Future initiative. Caring for MI Future is a $100 million investment that will help more Michigan families find quality, affordable childcare in their community by opening 1,000 new, or expanded, childcare programs by the end of 2024.
In addition to the financial stipend for faculty time and/or other institutional expenses or incentives, Programs will receive an identified Michigan AEYC Program Specialist, marketing materials, and a CDA competency standard book and professional portfolio shell for each cohort community participant. The intent of this project is to increase the number of early care and education providers pursuing the Council of Professional Recognition’s CDA credential and to support the growth of Michigan’s early childhood education workforce.
