During its regular meeting on Monday, May 17, the Escanaba Area Public Schools honored five teachers retiring from the District at the end of the current school year.
“Our retirees represent a cumulative 139 years of dedication to the District,” Dr. Coby Fletcher, Superintendent, pointed out. “That’s an amazing achievement by any standard.”
During the meeting, Dr. Fletcher invited the retirees forward and Board President Bob Chaillier presented them with a certificate, letter of appreciation, and a glass apple engraved with the school logo, their names, and years of service.
Retirees honored include Theresa Erickson, 31 years; Regina Furmanski, 22 years; Colleen Schmitt, 26 years; Lynn Trudeau, 26 years; and Tammy Wiles, 34 years.
“I’m pleased we’re able to provide this recognition to teachers who have given so much to our students,” commented President Chaillier. “They’ve been a positive influence in the lives of thousands of children.”
The recognition gave retirees an opportunity to reflect on their careers. “It was touching to be honored at tonight’s Board meeting,” Colleen Schmitt said. “Many things have changed since I first began teaching. However, one thing has always remained constant, and that is that I have been blessed to work with so many phenomenal people and students. With their help, I have had an amazing career. Once an Eskymo always an Eskymo!”
