The Superior Watershed Partnership (SWP) is inviting the public to help plant 100,000 trees throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan!
Trees contribute to their environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving water, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife. In addition, planting trees is a great way to combat impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic by getting outside and engaging with one another at safe distances while helping the environment!
Trees (1–2-year-old pine plugs) will be available free of charge for pickup at the SWP office located at 2 Peter White Drive in Marquette beginning on Saturday, May 15th, 2021 from 10:00-3:00 (2 trees per person or 10 per family) and the following week, Monday-Friday (May 17-21), during normal business hours. The Marquette Food Co-op will also be distributing free trees to co-op customers while supplies last. Planting instructions will be provided.
Since 2013, the SWP and its Great Lakes Climate Corps (GLCC) field crews have planted over 65,000 trees across the Upper Peninsula. This is just one way the SWP helps to combat climate change and preserve and protect the natural resources of the Upper Peninsula – and now you can help too!
More tree shipments arriving throughout the spring and early summer. Please follow the SWP website or Facebook page for updates on other FREE tree distribution dates and events!
The SWP is a Great Lakes non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of the watersheds of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula (Lake Superior, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron).
