The Delta County Prosecutor’s office says that Joshua James Tellefsen, 37, of Escanaba was sentenced to 2 years to 20 years in prison following the entry of a guilty plea to Possession of Methamphetamine. Tellefsen was sentenced as a 2nd or Subsequent Controlled Substance Offender, subjecting him to a double penalty.
On September 4, 2019, Escanaba Department of Public Safety officer observed Tellefsen operating a vehicle. The officer determined that Tellefsen did not have a valid driver’s license and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. The officer asked Tellefsen to step out of the vehicle. When he did, the officer saw Tellefsen drop a small packet into the storage area of the door of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle located the packet in the door storage area containing what appeared to be a white substance.
A large amount of US Currency was also in the vehicle. A lab test confirmed that the white substance was methamphetamine.
