The coronavirus has apparently taken the life of a member of the Michigan House of Representatives.
First term representative Isaac Robinson (D-Detroit) represented parts of central Detroit and the City of Hamtramack. He was 44 years old.
His mother, Rose Mary Robinson, told Detroit media outlets that it was because of the coronavirus.
“It is with extreme sadness that I share the passing of Rep. Isaac Robinson who was a passionate advocate for his community and constituents,” House Democratic Leader Christine Greig said in a press release Sunday. “Our entire Democratic Caucus is devastated by the loss of our colleague and send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued the following statement on the passing of Rep. Isaac Robinson. Rep. Robinson served the people of Detroit and Hamtramck in Michigan’s 4th House District.
“Rep. Isaac Robinson had a huge heart, a quick wit, and a genuine passion for the people. I am very sad to hear of his passing. He was a fierce advocate for Detroiters and people across Southeast Michigan. He dedicated his career to ensuring justice and security for those he served, and the impact he had on his community will continue to be felt for years to come.
“Rep. Robinson will be missed by many, including me. It was an honor to serve the people of Michigan alongside him. My deepest condolences go out his family and loved ones, and to the people of Detroit and Hamtramck who elected him as their voice in the House.”
According to his biography, Robinson received an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan before attending Northwestern University School of Law, where he completed his Juris Doctorate.
Robinson was the recipient of the Wigmore Key Award, presented to one law graduate who did the most to preserve the traditions of Northwestern Law.
