The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to CR 550 near Eagle Nest Road in Marquette Township for a logging truck which had lost its logs onto the roadway striking a pick-up truck Monday afternoon.
Investigation revealed a southbound logging truck owned by a McInerney Logging Company and driven by 22-year-old Corey McInernery of Escanaba began to lose his rear pup trailers logs due to a load chain malfunction.
A northbound pick-up truck driven by 49-year-old Randall Bullock of Big Bay, saw the truck leaning and beginning to lose its logs off the trailer.
Bullock locked up his brakes but was unable to avoid the falling logs and drove on top of a few additional logs striking the front of his vehicle.
Bullock was able to avoid any type of injury but his truck did sustain substantial damage and was later towed from the scene.
McInerney was able to stop his logging truck after he observed the spilled logs and return to the accident scene and load the spilled logs back onto the pup trailer.
CR 550 roadways was temporarily reduced to one lane of traffic for about one hour during the investigation and cleanup.
McInerney was issued a Traffic Citation for an Insecure Load. The accident remains under investigation.
