Former Representative and current U.P. Senate Candidate Ed McBroom received the endorsement of the Kivela family today:
“I am very excited to honor my father, John Kivela, by endorsing Ed McBroom for State Senate,” states Shelby Kivela, daughter of former 109th District State Representative John Kivela. “Like my father, Ed makes a point to put people above politics, like when he supported the Michigan Nurses Association on the Safe Patient Care Act and stood on the line with the nurses in Marquette when they were on strike. My dad looked forward to running against Ed because he knew that no matter who won, the U.P. would be well represented. Now that my dad is gone, I want to make sure Ed is our voice in Lansing. “
McBroom served with John Kivela in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2012-2016. They worked together on a wide range of issues, including Michigan Merit Curriculum and dark store reform, cracking down on opioids, and securing aid for the U.P. during the propane crisis of 2014.
“I am so touched and honored to have the endorsement of the Kivela family,” McBroom said. “I considered John to be one of my best friends and a great partner in the legislature. When elected, I will continue our legacy of putting the U.P. first.”
