Kristina Marie Coopride, 36, of Bark River was sentenced to 9 months in the Delta County Jail.
Coopride was sentenced following the entry of a no contest plea as charged to Failure to Stop at Scene of Accident Resulting in Serious Impairment, punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
On May 23, 2019, deputies from Delta County Sheriff’s Office, MI responded to a report of a vehicle versus bike accident in Bark River. Upon arrival, the deputies made contact with the female victim and several witnesses. The victim and the witnesses identified the driver of the vehicle as Coopride.
Through investigation, it was determined that after striking the female victim, Coopride left the scene and was absent for approximately 8 minutes. During that time, the first witness on the scene and several other people called 911 and attended to the badly injured victim. Coopride eventually returned to the scene of the accident, after being told to by her mother. The victim had to be airlifted to Marquette and underwent multiple surgeries.
At the time of the sentencing, Chief Assistant Prosecutor Wickman emphasized that Coopride failed to act with common decency everyone expects from society. “If you hit someone or something, you stop and see if they need help. It is simple. This Defendant did not, she left the victim helpless on the roadway.”
Delta County Sheriff’s Office, MI was assisted by Michigan State Police in their investigation.
