March Spotlight: Dorothy Paad - An Inspiring Woman Making a Difference
For Women's History Month, we're excited to share the story of Dorothy Paad, a woman whose journey is filled with passion, resilience, and a commitment to making the world a better place.
Dorothy never set out to be an author, but during the COVID pandemic, a weekly Zoom call with a friend turned into something much bigger. Her friend, inspired by Dorothy's stories, encouraged her to start writing. Fast forward to today, and Dorothy has published four books, each reflecting her life and the lessons she's learned along the way.
One of Dorothy's most meaningful projects is Teaching Teachers, a book that aims to positively influence education and help kids avoid the negative experiences she faced growing up. But it's not just her writing that makes her impactful-Dorothy is also deeply involved in her community. As an instructional coach at NMU's School of Education and a hospice volunteer, she's living out her mission to make a difference every day. She describes her work with hospice as the greatest privilege-being there for families at a time when they need support the most.
Dorothy is also passionate about advocating for caregivers. As a spokesperson for the Caregiver Incentive Project, she stresses that caregivers are more than just employees-they are family. "They make the difference between merely existing and truly living," Dorothy shares, acknowledging how much of her own life has been made possible by the care she's received.
When asked who has inspired her most, Dorothy's answer is clear: her mom, Alice Paad. "She's my best friend and the reason I am who I am today," Dorothy says.
For young women looking to make a difference, Dorothy has simple but powerful advice: "Believe in yourself and your ability to make a difference. The world needs strong women role models. You have the power to change lives."
Dorothy's story is a beautiful reminder of the impact one person can have. She continues to inspire all of us to live with purpose, to care for others, and to never stop believing in the difference we can make.
