On January 22, 2025, Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers from the Iron Mountain Post responded to a complaint regarding terroristic threats in Iron County. A 40-year-old man from Iron River, Michigan, had allegedly been making threats towards Iron County residents, including children. The threats, which were communicated online, caused concern for the safety of the community.
Within just a few hours of the investigation beginning, the suspect was located and taken into custody due to the quick actions of MSP troopers in partnership with other local law enforcement including the Iron River Police Department, Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan DNR Conservation Officer(s), and Iron County Dispatch. The suspect was lodged in the Iron County Jail on the charge of False Report or Threat of Terrorism.
“We condemn all threats of violence toward our community members, especially those directed towards children,” said Lt. Ben Eckola, MSP Eighth District Public Information Officer. “We are thankful for the quick actions and cooperation of all law enforcement agencies involved.”
The suspect’s name is being withheld until he has been arraigned in court.
MSP was assisted by the Iron River Police Department, Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officers, and Aspirus EMS.
