A Gwinn area resident has been arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, Malicious Destruction of Property (MDOP), Discharging a Firearm at a Residence, and Felony Firearm following MSP investigations over the weekend.
On 1/10/25 at approximately 8:28 p.m., a trooper from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Negaunee Post was dispatched to a reported one-vehicle crash on County Road 545 near M-94 Highway in West Branch Township. The trooper’s investigation resulted in the arrest of 56-year-old Jeffrey Johnson for Operating While Intoxicated. Johnson was lodged in the Marquette County Jail.
The following morning, residents of a home near where the crash occurred reported that the front and back windows of their vehicle had been shot out. Nobody had been injured, but the vehicle was damaged.
After further investigation by another MSP Negaunee trooper, it was determined that Johnson had allegedly fired a rifle at a vehicle parked outside of a residence before crashing his truck the previous night. The firearm involved was subsequently located near the crash site which had been concealed in a bush.
Johnson was additionally charged with felonious MDOP, Discharging a Firearm at a Residence, and Felony Firearm.
He was arraigned in the 96th District Court on 1/13/2025. His bond was set at $30,000 with conditions. He is due in court next on 1/23/25. Johnson is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
