The St. Ignace Ranger District of the Hiawatha National Forest is seeking input on the Carp Integrated Resource Management Project (Carp Project), and the public is invited to participate. The primary purpose of the Carp Project is to improve forest diversity for better growing conditions and improved habitat for a variety of wildlife species. To do this, the Forest is considering a landscape-scale approach, including several components, that integrates vegetation, forest health, habitat management, and recreation goals.
Some of the activities that are proposed as part of this project include prescribed fire, timber harvest, culvert replacements to improve aquatic organism passage, and a bridge replacement. Additionally, rehabilitation is proposed at three Carp River access sites and the boat launch at
the mouth of the Carp River.
The Carp Project area stretches from the community of Trout Lake in its northwestern corner to the mouth of the Carp River in its southeastern corner, covering portions of Chippewa and Mackinac Counties.
An interactive map of the proposed activities with more details can be found at https://usfs.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=06e6dc77363b4ddab2b8531fa56b1208\
