United Way of Marquette County is thrilled to announce they’ve been awarded a grant to expand their free tax preparation services throughout 2025. With support from the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM), United Way is now able to significantly increase its ability to connect more community members with free tax preparation services.
United Way of Marquette County submitted a proposal to CEDAM’s Michigan Free Tax Preparation Expansion and Sustainability Funding opportunity during the fall. With this funding, United Way will be able to provide free tax preparation services for the elderly, low-income and disabled in accordance with our Mission of bringing people, organizations, and resources together to improve community well-being.
This is the first year IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers will help local low- to moderate-income individuals and families in Marquette County file their taxes at no cost to them. In partnership with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, they offer their services to individuals who generally make $67,000 or less, persons with disabilities, as well as limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their tax returns.
Through this initiative, United Way of Marquette County is committed to ensuring that eligible individuals and families in Marquette County have access to quality tax preparation assistance, helping them maximize their refunds and claim every tax credit available to them. With this funding, United Way will provide free tax preparation services at both Peter White Library in Marquette and at 906 Community Church at Sawyer.
United Way of Marquette encourages individuals and families in need of free tax preparation assistance to utilize their services. To ensure their services are accessible to as many community members as possible, United Way is looking to grow their volunteer numbers. No tax experience is required to volunteer and United Way provides no-cost training.
