The following is a letter from the Marquette County YMCA announcing its plans to build a new fieldhouse.
First and foremost, we want to thank our community for the decades of generous support and dedication to our YMCA.
We would not be the organization we are today without our community, donors, members, board members, volunteers and staff. The story of our YMCA is in no way complete. We have had many different chapters and have learned so much. We are finally ready to start the next chapter at our YMCA. Every year, for the last eight, our YMCA has grown stronger.
We are financially stable, and our membership and programs are at capacity. Most importantly, we continue to provide for the underserved children and families in our County.
We are proud to announce our vision for the future of our YMCA with the construction of a multi-purpose Field House. The Field House will have the capacity to serve our community for many years to come. Marquette County is blessed with so many opportunities for children to play sports and for outdoor recreation. With our long winters though, these children do not have an indoor space to appropriately be able to practice and play. They are at a disadvantage. Some of these same children cannot afford the cost of leagues and competitive sports.
They need a new space to play within an organization that can offer them financial assistance. Please remember that no one is turned away from the YMCA for inability to pay.
Our Board of Directors and CEO has spent a lot of time over the past few years on our strategic plan, discussing needs in our community, and how this Capitol Campaign is different. We will not put a shovel in the ground until we have raised 100% of the funds necessary to build the new facility.
We are confident that after the last years of solid financial stability, and our new leadership, we can publicly announce this campaign and do what YMCAs are supposed to do, which is fill Community needs. We are financially healthy and can assure our community that we will meet the additional operating costs and obligations of this new enhanced addition.
The 19,200 square foot field house on the west end of our facility will offer a unique space for youth and families. This facility will accommodate all ages and various sports, such as soccer, flag football, golf, birthday parties, sports training, soft ball and pickleball to name a few.
The space will also help increase the number of children we can accommodate in childcare and day camp programs. Most importantly, this will be a space for families to play together and thrive.
Our goal is to fill this community need and make a positive impact on the lives of thousands of children and families for decades to come.
Our YMCA is over twenty-five years old and is aging. Part of our campaign is to raise funds for capital improvements in our current facility. Some of these projects include upgrades to our three locker rooms, new roofs on both of our YMCA facilities, hot tub repairs, and pool upgrades.
To date we have raised $4.9 Million. Our Goal is $5.5 MillionWe are looking for additional donors to reach our goal. Part of our process is not to confuse the public with our Annual Scholarship Campaign that runs January-March as it’s critical to raise funds for our financial assistance program
Last year the YMCA provided $134,000 in program and membership assistance. We are working with the city on a plan to address the parking lot as the Y does not own the land and leases from the City of Marquette. Construction on the Field House will begin in Spring, 2025. In late Fall of 2025, we will have a brand-new addition to the David and Thu Brule’ YMCA of Marquette County.
