This will be the final Summit Lake Fire Update. The fire continues to remain within its’ existing footprint thanks to firefighting efforts as well as rain and snow. Firefighters have effectively secured the west and southwestern flanks of the fire where the priority has been to protect private lands.
As of November 6, 2024 just after 1:00 PM CST. the temporary closure order of the northern half of the McCormick Wilderness was terminated and lifted.
Current actions: Firefighters will continue to reinforce firelines when needed and monitor to ensure the fire has stayed within its footprint.
Fire activity: Minimal. There may be some smoldering in dead and down debris.
Fire Resources: Ottawa National Forest fire personnel and aircraft as needed.

Location: Northwest corner of the McCormick Wilderness between Summit Lake and Evergreen Lake. The McCormick Wilderness is located in Baraga County, 12.5 miles north of Michigamme, Michigan.
