Lake Superior State University has awarded its Escanaba Regional Center Scholarship for the Fall 2024 semester to Allyson Lancour of Rock, Mich. Lancour is earning a baccalaureate degree in accounting through LSSU’s regional center at Bay College in Escanaba.
“To say I’m appreciative of our community would be an understatement. Receiving the Escanaba Regional Center Scholarship has allowed me to focus more on my studies and less on the financial burden that comes with furthering my education. Knowing that our local community has funded this scholarship makes it so much more meaningful. The support and encouragement that I have received from the community has been exceptional! I am beyond honored and thankful to be a recipient of this award,” said Lancour in garnering the award.
Funding for the award was provided through an endowment established in 2015 by the Mead Paper Company, then headquartered in Escanaba, Mich. Candidates must be admitted LSSU students taking at least six credits per semester through the Escanaba Regional Center, with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Financial need may be a consideration.
Heidi Rife, LSSU’s regional center director, stated, “The Regional Center Award is a prime example of how a locally-funded scholarship plays a vital role in empowering students as they pursue their educational goals. Not only does this scholarship support the student in building a brighter future, it also fosters a more educated, skilled workforce that enriches the whole community.”
Escanaba Regional Center students can earn LSSU baccalaureate degrees in accounting, business, criminal justice, general studies, nursing, and teacher education without ever having to leave Bay’s Escanaba or Iron Mountain campus.
