On 09/19/24 at approximately 5:55 P.M., Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post responded to US-41 Hwy near Boston Location Rd. in Franklin Twp. for a report of a four vehicle, personal injury crash.
On scene investigation showed a vehicle was stopped in the north bound lane waiting to turn left onto Boston Location Rd. A second vehicle was stopped behind the first. A third north bound vehicle did not see the first two vehicles stopped in the roadway.
This vehicle rear ended the second vehicle causing a chain reaction of the second vehicle to strike the first vehicle and veer into the south bound lane of oncoming traffic. A fourth vehicle heading south bound was unable to avoid the collision with the second vehicle as it veered into the south bound lane as a result from the first impact, and they collided.
One of the drivers was transported to UP Health Systems Portage for treatment by Mercy EMS. All other drivers and passengers were treated and released on scene by Mercy EMS. Michigan State Police was assisted by Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Hancock City Police Department, Mercy EMS and Daves BP Towing.
Driver distraction was a factor in the crash.
