The DNR Pocket Park is open as the Upper Peninsula State Fair begins in Escanaba.
The Michigan DNR”s Krisiti Dahlstrom says that the park is free to everyone, and features a U.P.-shaped fishing pond that is stocked with bluegill for catch-and-release fishing. Dahlstrom sys they also have archery and pellet gun ranges, a fire tower, wildflower gardens and an indoor classroom space.
Not only can kids try their hand at fishing, both kids and adults can learn how to shoot a compound bow, as well as a pellet gun, with designated shooting ranges a part of the facility. Dahlstrom says that it takes a lot of volunteers to staff the Pocket Park during Fair Week, and DNR employees will train people who do not have any esperience. And while the Pocket Park is open during Fair Week, it is also open all summer long..
