The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is investing about $250,000 in preventive maintenance, including cleaning and coating of structural steel, on the M-28 bridge over Prairie Creek, in Alger County. This project near Shingleton is scheduled to start on Monday, and it should be done by late September.
M-DOT says the work will require a single-lane closure on M-28. One lane of alternating traffic will be maintained using temporary traffic signals. An 11-foot lane width restriction will be in place on M-28 during the project. It includes a two-year bridge coating warranty.
Meanwhile, M-DOT will also be resurfacing nearly four miles of of M-28 from Scott Falls Roadside Park east to Harborview Road, also in Alger County. The work includes paver-placed surface sealer, crack filling, rumble strips, and pavement markings. This project includes a three-year pavement performance warranty. This project is also schedued to start on Monday, and will be with us through mid-October.
M-DOT says the work will be performed during daytime hours only. One lane of alternating traffic will be maintained on M-28 using traffic regulators. An 11-foot lane width restriction will be in place on M-28 during the project.
