Bay College is excited to announce the relocation of the Iron Mountain Campus’s welding lab to a new, expanded space. This move provides Bay College with more opportunities to deliver courses and training at times that support the local and regional needs of students, as well as employers.
Previously, Bay College has utilized the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District (DIISD) welding lab for over twenty years, thanks to a strong and steady partnership. With the growing need for additional courses and with customizedNearraining requirements from local employers, Bay College needed to move into a more flexible and versatile space. Bay College will continue their dual-enrollment and early college courses at the DIISD, but will now offer their traditional welding program at the new location.
After visiting multiple facilities and buildings, and working with local businesses, the Bay College Welding Lab has settled into their new, temporary location at 1900 North Stephenson Avenue, Iron Mountain. The facility, which is adjoining to Neuens Landscaping, was thoughtfully considered and after several meetings was determined to be the ideal space. Cindy Gallagher, Bay College Vice President of Business, Technology, Allied Health, and Workforce, shared that the physical location of the property in relation to the campus was one of the biggest factors in the decision.
“The new welding lab is in close proximity to the Bay College Iron Mountain Campus, which makes it very convenient for students to still access campus facilities and resources that are available to them,” stated Gallagher. “We were grateful to have had several local businesses willing to work with us on possible spaces so we could continue to deliver and expand our welding offerings within Dickinson/Iron County.”
“The primary goal of the welding program is to provide students with a solid foundation to enter into the industry and build a successful welding career,” adds Nick DuPont, Bay College Full-Time Welding Instructor. “Students that enroll in the welding program at Bay College can count on receiving a welding education that they can use to gain employment locally, nationally, or even transfer to a university to continue their education at a four-year institution.”
Bay College is committed to providing a high-quality welding education in Iron Mountain, and the move into the new facility is another steppingstone forward.
Bay College will kick off the Fall 2024 semester with classes starting August 26.
