The Construction and Welding Skills Challenge is an annual competition offered to high school construction technology programs throughout the Upper Peninsula, allowing students to showcase their exceptional skills.
Nine teams from schools and career tech centers across the U.P. will construct a pre-designed structure and compete in coinciding aspects of Career and Technical Education (CTE).
On the welding side, 44 students will participate. The top welding students from each school or tech center will participate in the Advanced Welding Challenge, a competition requiring students to interpret prints and fabricate an item, using multiple processes.
All other welding students will participate in either Stick or MIG welding competitions.
A team trophy will be awarded to the best team, to be retained until the next Skills Challenge. Individual medals will be awarded to the top three teams as well.
