Shoe Sensation is thrilled to announce another successful conclusion of its “Socks for Troops” donation drive.
The affordable footwear giant hosted a nationwide “Socks for Troops” drive during the holiday shopping season, collecting more than 40,000 socks.
The Escanaba community answered the call with vigor, donating more than 3,000 packs of socks for the troops, placing the local store at the top of the Shoe Sensation roster.
“One thing about Escanaba, we have great community support,” said Margaret Derkos, local Shoe Sensation manager. “One woman who had already donated two packs of socks, donated another $100 worth of socks after buying gifts. Even an older gentleman hand-knitted two pairs of socks for the drive.”
After only collecting nearly 350 packs of socks in 2022, Shoe Sensation set a goal to at least triple that number. With the help of the community and employee teamwork, the store was able to donate more than 18,000 pairs of socks to the Gladstone Lions Club to be distributed to veterans and active military.
“It was easy for the community to get behind the cause; not only were they helping our troops but also buying something that is made here in the United States,” said Derkos.
“We partner with local charities and participate actively in local events because we think it’s important to help make our communities, like Escanaba, the best they can be,” Shoe Sensation CEO Dave Schoengart said. “Our annual ‘Socks for Troops’ drive is the one time each year that every Shoe Sensation market joins together supporting the same cause at the same time. We’re extraordinarily proud of this history.”
The local Shoe Sensation will continue to be an active supporter of the “Socks for Troops” program and other local charities like Foster Grandparents, local Girl Scouts, the Delta Animal Shelter, and Delta County Schools’ Financial Reality Fairs.
