State Rep. Dave Prestin (R-Cedar River) is blasting the Green Energy package signed into law this week by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, calling it a “radical plan that will effect every Yooper, every employer, in a bad way”.
In an interview with RRN News, Prestin said that the package, which sets aggressive targets for having 100-percent of Michigan’s energy come from “clean” sources by 2040 will be devastating to the region.
“On reliability, on affordability, on jobs, you name it, it’s a threat,” Prestin said. “It’s a threat to the U.P. in every way that you can think of.”
Prestin says that he will be holding Town Hall Meetings, along with State Rep. Greg Markkanen (R-Hancock) and State Sen. Ed McBroom (R-Norway), to give people more information about the legislation. Prestin says that public utilities will be forced to spend millions on “preposterous renewable energy credits” to become compliant with new laws. And those costs will be passed down to you, the utility customer.
“People can’t afford the rates they’re being charged as it is,” Prestin said.
He has long been a critic of the move to solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources, calling them a “pipe dream” that won’t work in a rural place like the Upper Peninsula. Prestin is vowing to continue fighting the legislation, even though Whitmer signed it into law this week.
“Our voices matter. This isn’t the end,” he said. “There’s nothing stopping the people of our state from banding together to repeal these radical policies rooted in ideology instead of science. We’re going to fight this intentional sabotage of our future. This law will not stand.”
