The City of Escanaba is getting an early start to the holiday shopping season this Tuesday with the annual “Black Friday on Tuesday” event in the downtown area.
Escanaba Downtown Development Authority Director Craig Woerpel tells RRN News that it will be a family-friendly event, complete with sales offered by downtown stores, limo rides, and a visit from Santa Claus in time for the city’s tree-lighting ceremony.
“We have the tree lighting at 7:00, and stores are open from 10 until 8,” Woerpel said. “We have the longest small town downtown in the State of Michigan, so the limos will give some rides later in the afternoon. Also, we have some carrolers from Players deNoc, and we have the City Band playing from 5:30 until 6:30.”
The tree lighting will be held at the corner of 11th and Ludington Streets at 7:00, and with a flip of the switch, all of the lights throughout the downtown area will also be turned on. And Woerpel says the DDA is a part of the “Sleigh the Deals” promotion that is being run by the Chamber of Commerce, where people who spend $100 at downtown stores get a playing card that could lead them to a $1,000 prize.
“We also have promotions within our stores called Jingle Dollars,” Woerpel said. “Those you can spend throughout the downtown, throughout the shopping season. There are prizes of $500, $300, and $200.”
