Bay College’s TRIO-SSS program is proud to announce that two of its students, Lauren Denney and Erin Stevenson, were recently honored and awarded Academic Achievement scholarships at the Michigan College Access Programs and Personnel (MI-CAPP) annual Student Leadership Summit in Kalamazoo.
Denney and Stevenson were each awarded a $1500 scholarship from MI-CAPP’s Endowment Fund after competing against college students from across the state of Michigan. Applicants were required to have a 3.2 GPA or higher, be actively involved in their college’s TRIO program for a year or more, and demonstrate future commitment to serving populations underrepresented in higher education.
Bay College’s TRIO-SSS program sent a delegation of eight students, including Denney and Stevenson, to the MI-CAPP Student Leadership Summit. At the summit, students were able to attend workshops given by professionals, as well as peers, to help hone their leadership skills and brainstorm ideas to further utilize these skills back on their own campuses. Students left the conference with a better view of their potential on campus and in society.
