Governor Gretchen Whitmer has earned historic support from business groups across Michigan thanks to her bipartisan record of securing landmark economic investments, bringing supply chains home, strengthening the workforce, cutting the cost of child care, and growing Michigan’s economy.
In addition to major business groups endorsing the Governor, several business groups that have historically endorsed Republicans have chosen to remain neutral in the race.
In recent weeks, both the Michigan Manufacturers Association and the Northern Michigan Policy Fund Traverse Connect PAC announced historic endorsements of Governor Whitmer.
The MMA’s endorsement marks “the first time since 1990” that the group has supported a Democrat and the Northern MI Policy Fund Traverse Connect PAC’s endorsement is the first ever gubernatorial endorsement.
On Monday, the Detroit Regional Chamber also announced its endorsement of Governor Whitmer.
Several groups that have historically endorsed Republicans have chosen to remain neutral in the race and refrained from endorsing either candidate. The Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce joined the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association and the Small Business Association of Michigan – three groups that supported Republican Bill Schuette in 2018 – to publicly declare they would stay neutral in the 2022 race.
Business leaders across Michigan know that Governor Whitmer is the best choice to continue strengthening Michigan’s economy.
Governor Whitmer has boosted Michigan’s competitiveness and secured unprecedented economic development for the state by working with the business community and across the aisle. Whitmer landed billions in landmark investments that are creating tens of thousands of good paying jobs, while bringing supply chains home and ensuring the future of manufacturing is Michigan made, by Michigan workers. Governor Whitmer will work with anyone to build on this momentum and create opportunity in every community, and Michigan business leaders are eager to support her for reelection.
