The following is a political campaign press release from Dave Prestin, one of four Republicans running for the southern U.P. state house seat.
Dave Prestin of Cedar River, has filed his paperwork with the State of Michigan for his candidacy in the 108th District for the House of Representatives. As an entrepreneur, first responder, local elected official, Proud Yooper, and Family Man, Prestin has a proven track record of getting things done and will take that to Lansing to help the residents of the 108th and Michigan.
Prestin is an experienced businessman of over 27 years with a proven track record of turning around failed business models and properties as a career. Most recently with Cedar River Plaza from 2007-2017 and GameTime, a sports bar and restaurant in downtown Milwaukee from 1997-2007. He plans to bring this experience with him to Lansing and help business owners throughout the State of Michigan.
Since moving to Cedar River, Prestin has been with the Cedarville Township Volunteer Fire Department and served as Assistant Fire Chief in 2012 for almost 8 years. In 2013, Prestin began working in the medical field and remains a member of Mid County Rescue 114 to this day. Prestin has worked with the Mid County Rescue Reorganization Committee to realign their business structure in order to make the organization sustainable and transitioned the organization to a fully funded Basic Life Support (BLS) squad. Prestin has continued to advance his training and became a fully licensed Paramedic currently working at Aurora Bay Area Medical Center. This experience gave Prestin his first major involvement in State government as he worked with legislators to fight needless bureaucratic red tape that would have crippled community emergency medical services.
Prestin was elected in 2018 and continues to serve as the District 6 Commissioner on the Menominee County Board of Commissioners. During his time on the Board, Prestin has shown fiscal responsibility by fostering a path towards a balanced budget, initiated a more fiscally-sound strategy for the Municipal Employee Retirement System (MERS), and stopped projects that would have wasted taxpayer dollars. Prestin has advocated for the Menominee County Library Millage and has supported projects that strengthen the community. Prestin currently serves on the Finance, Fair Board, 911, and Health Department County Committees.
Prestin has been a board member for Alger Delta Cooperative Electric Association since March 2014, where he helped bring stability to an otherwise fractured board. He has successfully brought an end to a long-standing litigation dispute using a fresh hands-on approach. Prestin has served on the following committees: Executive, Finance and Labor Relations, and has held the positions of Interim Manager, President, Vice President, and Chair of the Labor Relations Committee.
Dave Prestin has been married to Kathie Prestin for over 21 years and has a 15-year-old daughter Mattie, who is actively involved in 4-H Equine and Swine. Mattie also is the Vice President of the Jr. Market Livestock Board, competes in rodeo, and later this month will be inducted into the National Honor Society.
Spending time as a family is most important. Prestin is an avid outdoorsman, he loves to hunt, fish, snowmobile, ski and do just about anything outdoors. Prestin is a part-time substitute teacher for Stephenson Area Public School and is also a member of the Stephenson Lions Club.
Dave Prestin is running as a Pro-Business, Pro-Life, Pro-Law Enforcement, Pro-2nd Amendment, and Pro-Education Republican. Prestin said, “I will bring my life experience to bear on this elected position, and I will make a difference. I am running for this position to help our communities and fix our State Government so it works for the people of Michigan. I hope everyone would consider voting David Prestin in the August 2nd Republican primary for the 108th District for the House of Representatives. We’re just getting started here, with much more to come”.
