Electric crews have been working all day long to restore power to thousands of Upper Peninsula customers who were put in the dark by ice and heavy snow Wednesday morning. The ice knocked down trees and power lines, with the southern Upper Peninsula counties the hardest hit.
As of 8:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. CT, here are the updated outage numbers:
UPPCO: 3,180 customers (1255 in Marquette County, 964 in Delta County)
Cloverland Electric Co-op: 1,589 customers (747 in Delta County, 767 in Schoolcraft County)
We Energies: 7,710 customers (across Menominee, Dickinson, Iron Counties)
Alger-Delta Co-op: 456 customers (mostly in Menominee County)
“UPPCO crews and contractors will be working into and through the night to restore power,” the company tweeted at 7:0o ET Wednesday night.
“Crews have worked hard to reduce the total outage number to around 1700,” Cloverland said at 6:00 this evening. “Due to the number of broken poles, restoration efforts are taking some time. Pole replacements are already a long and difficult process, and hard rock substrate isn’t helping. Crews will continue to work until mandatory safety rest is required. If your power is not restored by 8pm this evening, please prepare for an overnight outage. Restoration efforts will begin again once safety rest is completed. Next update at 10pm.”
