The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Friday reported 2,770 new cases on Friday, which covers both Thursday and Friday.
That includes about 825 older positive test results that had not been reported due to a laboratory backlog. State officials did not say how old those 825 cases were, but they are in the process of sorting through them and assigning the proper date to them.
There were 15 new COVID deaths reported over those two days.
State officials also went through old death certificates and matched them to previous positive test results. They added 35 more deaths to the state total.
Here in the Upper Peninsula, there were two new COVID deaths reported on Friday: one each in Schoolcraft and Chippewa Counties.
There were 75 new cases added in the U.P., with 28 of them in Menominee County and 17 in Marquette County, according to the MDHHS report.
