Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced appointments to the Nursing Home Workforce Stabilization Council created by Executive Order 2021-15. Their goal will be to identify review, develop, and recommend policies, administrative actions, legislative changes, and other approaches to support high-quality nursing home care.
The Governor is announcing the following appointments to the Council:
Andrea A. Acevedo is the president of SEIU Healthcare Michigan. She is appointed to represent the nursing home workforce.
Mark Berger is the founding partner and principal of Villa Financial Services which operates several nursing homes across the state of Michigan. He is appointed to represent nursing home employers.
Nancy M. Hebert is a laundry aide at Mission Point of Ishpeming. She is appointed to represent the nursing home workforce.
Alison E. Hirschel is the director and managing attorney for Michigan Elder Justice Initiative and an elder law attorney for Michigan Poverty Law Program. She is also a lecturer and fellow with the University of Michigan Law School. Ms. Hirschel is appointed to represent nursing home residents, family members, and other representatives of residents.
Erica Holman is the CEO of Clinton Area Care Center in St. Johns. She is appointed to represent not-for-profit nursing home employers.
Jannice L. Lamm is an administrator with Oakview Medical Care Facility owned and operated by Mason County. She is appointed to represent county government nursing home employers.
Mary McClendon is a nursing assistant and restorative aide for Villa Ambassador Nursing Home in Detroit. She is appointed to represent the nursing home workforce.
Michael Munter is the CEO of Symphony Care Network which operates nursing homes across the state of Michigan. He is appointed to represent nursing home employers.
Martha M. Nichols is a licensed practical nurse with Lahser Hills Care Centre in Detroit and is currently the chief SEIU union steward. She is appointed to represent the nursing home workforce.
Robert L. Norcross is the CEO of Prestige Healthcare Management which operates several Medilodge nursing homes across the state of Michigan. He is appointed to represent nursing home employers.
Jennifer Root is the executive director of SEIU Michigan. She is appointed to represent the nursing home workforce.
Terence Thomas is the co-founder of Thomas Group Consulting in Detroit. He is a current member of the Grosse Pointe City Council and serves as a member of The Helm Board, a non-profit organization that serves the needs of Harper Woods and Grosse Pointe seniors. Mr. Thomas is appointed to represent nursing home residents, family members, and other representatives of residents.
Yvonne M. White is the state president of the Michigan State Conference NAACP, assistant treasurer of the NAACP National Board of Directors, and a member of the Detroit Area Agency on Aging Advisory Board. She is appointed to represent nursing home residents, family members, and other representatives of residents.
The Council will also include the directors or their designees of the Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, and the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, and the Michigan State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Salli Pung.
The Council must submit a final report or consensus recommendations to the
Governor by or before December 1, 2023. Appointees will serve until the Council dissolves on December 1, 2023.
These appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
