Menominee/Marinette Community Foundation Doles Out Grants

The M&M Area Community Foundation (MMACF) recently awarded grants during their Spring Grant Cycle.   The following endowments, held at the MMACF, provided funding:

Peshtigo Area Community Fund

• The City of Peshtigo Fire Department will use their award to purchase a SENSIT Gas Detection Instrument which detects combustible gas leaks and monitors hazardous gas conditions.
• Two grants were awarded to the Town of Peshtigo Fire Department.  The first will be used to purchase a Scott Safety RIT-PAK III, which is an emergency air source for a downed firefighter.  The second award will go towards the purchase of a water rescue boat, motor and equipment.

Crivitz Area Fund

• The Crivitz Business Association will use their $1,200 in funding to honor veterans by installing flags to represent each branch of the military at their newly established memorial site.
• The funding awarded to the Crivitz Youth Baseball organization will help purchase a field chalk machine.

Youth Field of Interest Fund

• The Niagara Police Department was selected to receive a $9,000 grant to support the National Night Out program for northern Marinette and Menominee Counties.  This annual event provides an opportunity for the police department and other service agencies to work cooperatively on child protection, education and actions.
• The DAR Boys & Girls Club will use funds to purchase supplies and help implement their Summer Brain Gain program, which will assist with learning loss and makes learning fun during the summer.
• The $5,000 grant to Menominee School District will provide students at Central Elementary School with nine books throughout the summer, which will help maintain literacy learning that students have sustained during the year.
• Pembine Area Christians was awarded a grant for their Snack PAC program which distributes assorted food items to 4^th and 5^th graders attending school in the Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine area.
• Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area was granted $750 to use towards various activities for participants, including bowling, mini golf and a picnic.
• Zion Lutheran Church Youth Ministries received a grant toward the purchase of an enclosed aluminum trailer for activities and outreach programs.

In addition, the following organizations received grants from other Funds held at the Foundation:

• Flowers, fertilizer and mulch will be purchased by the Village of Carney to be planted on curbs within the village to help provide a warm, cheerful, welcoming feeling for their
  residents and visitors.
• Marinette County Health and Human Services plans to use their $7,500 grant award to support Marinette County’s Mental Health Court, which aims to steer individuals away from a life of crime and turn them back into productive members of society by screening for possible underlying causes of criminal behavior and conducting drug testing to determine the best treatment options.
• The City of Marinette Fire Department will purchase new and improved personal protective equipment, which includes updated hoods and gloves, with the money they were awarded.  The new state of the art hoods are vitally important to the health and safety of the firefighters, both long-term and during an incident.
• The Grover-Porterfield Fire Department will be better able to provide assistance and rescue services as a result of their selection to receive a $5,400 grant to purchase a Rescue 42 Truck Kit Vehicle Stabilization System.  The rescue system includes struts, jacks, straps, clamps and rings to allow for the stabilization of vehicles involved in road and highway accidents.  Stabilization is critical to the prevention of injury to accident victims and rescue personnel.
• Firefighters in Nadeau Township were awarded a grant to purchase non-PFAS, class A foam which makes fire fighting safer and saves time and property.  The foam would be used in mutual aid fires along with Nadeau and Holmes Township fire calls.
• The Menominee Animal Shelter was awarded a grant to put towards the purchase of a printer, computer, publishing software and web development in order to improve communications with community members about the many benefits of owning a pet.
• The Wagner Fire Department received a $9,000 grant to purchase firefighting gear and equipment.  The gear is especially critical, as they have recently added three new volunteers to their firefighting unit.  Without the equipment, the new volunteers were unable to train or attend structure fire calls.
• Crime Victim Service Unit of the Menominee County Sheriff’s Department received a grant to purchase reflective winter wear for their members as well as supplies for crisis victims who are displaced due to homicide, suicide, fire or auto crash.
• $2,200 was awarded to the Pembine-Dunbar-Beecher Rescue Squad to purchase and install a SENTINEL 300 sanitizing system in their ambulance.
• St. Vincent de Paul District of Marinette will use their $5,000 grant to purchase mattresses and box springs for community members in need.
• The Salvation Army will use their grant toward their “Pathway of Hope” program, which is designed to engage and empower families to lead their own change, identify and remove barriers to sufficiency, and build a supportive community network and help families achieve their individual goals.
• Public safety will be enhanced when the City of Marinette Police Department purchases a search drone with their grant dollars.
• The YMCA will purchase three CamStreamers, which will allow them to stream to YouTube, Facebook live and other platforms so community members may virtually attend gymnastic meets, basketball games and other activities.  They will also add a handicap auto entry to various entry areas, which will help them meet standards for accessibility.
• Dorothy’s Haven of Hope Homeless Shelter will improve security at their facility with the funds they receive.
