Ishpeming Police said on Thursday that two teenage boys from Marquette have admitted to vandalizing the Old Ish statue in the downtown area last weekend. The 16 and 17 year old boys have not been identified. They have been charged with malicious destruction of property, and for violating the governor’s Stay at Home order.
Police say the incident happened at around 5:55 Saturday morning when, according to surveillance video footage, one of the two ran to the statue and put red paint on its face and midsection.
In a press release, police thanked Range Telecommunications for the footage that eventually helped them catch the two. That video camera was donated by Range after Santa’a Workshop was damaged by vanadals last winter.
